Johnston, SC – For the second consecutive school year, the Strom Thurmond High School cheerleading team is sending one of its own to cheer at the collegiate level.

Rebels’ senior Elizabeth Holmes signed with Newberry College on Friday, February 9, 2024, in the STHS field house surrounded by her family, friends, coaches and cheer team.

She says she has been passionate about the sport since first grade.

"It was just the excitement of it," stated Elizabeth. "The dances and the cheers and going up in a stunt and being tossed in the air. Just the entire game day feeling altogether is just one of my favorite feelings and I still feel that way."

You have to have a lot of trust in your teammates, especially with some of the co-ed stunting I've been doing," she added. "You get to build those relationships and that's very important. 

There will be at least one relationship at Newberry College Elizabeth will not have to build as she will join former standout Rebels’ cheerleader, Beth Yonce, a member of the STHS graduating Class of 2023, who signed to cheer for the Wolves a year ago.

Elizabeth Holmes is the daughter of Wilbur and Carisa Holmes.
