Aiken, SC – Swimmers representing Strom Thurmond High School flexed some competitive power in the pool at the Fermata Club recently by posting state consideration times in several events.

 

Debbie Courtney, head coach of the STHS Swim Team who is now in her 50th year of coaching in the sport, said eight individual Rebels have posted state consideration times. In team events, the Rebels have posted state consideration times in the 200-yard medley (boys), 200-yard freestyle relay (boys),and 200-yard freestyle relay (girls).

 

“The season is going well, and we look forward to returning most of our varsity boys and girls to the state swim meet in Columbia,” stated Courtney.

 

In boys’ individual events, senior David Platte had a pair of first place finishes at the team’s most recent meet, coming in the 100-meter freestyle with a finals time of 1:05.80 and the 200-yard freestyle with a finals time of 2:00.97. Meanwhile, in girls’ team events, the Rebels’ 200-yard freestyle relay team comprised of Hartley Byrd, Sara Willis, Marianna Platte, and Emerson Holmes won first place with a finals time of 2:06.12.

 

Other top-three individual finishers for the Rebels included Andrew Platte (third place in the 50-yard freestyle with a finals time of 24.67); Dawson Kulp (second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a finals time of 55.77); and Xander Cain (third place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a finals time of 1:24.67). In the team events, the Rebels took third place in the 200-yard medley relay (1) Hartley Byrd, Marianna Platte, Rylee Raines and Emerson Holmes) with a finals time of 2:27.91; second place in the 200-yard medley relay (Tyler Dean, David Platte, Andrew Platte and Dawson Kulp) with a finals time of 1:50.70; second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay Hartley Byrd, Sara Willis, Marianna Platte and Emerson Holmes) with a finals time of 2:06.12; 200-yard freestyle relay (David Platte, Dawson Kulp, Tyler Dean and Andrew Platte) with a finals time of 2:03.76.
